Dr. John Griggs stands as one of Apex High School’s most respected educator-coaches, serving from 1977 to 1990 while excelling in both the classroom and on the field. His coaching prowess was legendary—he led golf teams to eight consecutive conference championships, earned Conference Coach of the Year honors eight times in golf, and was recognized as Conference Coach of the Year in basketball. Beyond athletics, he was selected as an outstanding educator and later became a distinguished professor at NC State University for 33 years, co-authoring calculus textbooks and earning professor emeritus status. His impact extends far beyond wins and losses, as he shaped countless lives through his character, leadership, and unwavering dedication to education and service.
