Courtney McLaughlin Burgess is a 2009 Graduate of Apex. After helping launch Apex High School’s inaugural lacrosse program as a freshman, Courtney played a pivotal role in leading the Cougars to three consecutive state championships from 2007, 2008, and 2009. She earned All-Conference in 2007, 2008, and 2009, All-State honors in 2008 and 2009, was MVP of the 2009 State All-Star game and was named North Carolina State Player of the Year in her senior season.
In 2009, Courtney made history as the first player from North Carolina to be named a First-Team U.S. Lacrosse All-American, a milestone that helped elevate the profile of girls’ lacrosse throughout the state. Courtney’s success challenged the long-held perception that elite women’s lacrosse talent came exclusively from the Northeast.
Courtney went on to earn a scholarship to play at the University of North Carolina before finishing her collegiate career at High Point University. There, she once again helped launch the program at HPU, serving as a two-time team captain while winning conference championships and earning multiple All-Conference honors.
Courtney has built a career in sports media in New York City. She lives in the tristate area with her college sweetheart and together they are raising their two children.
