Wayne “Silk” Canady

Wayne “Silk” Canady earned his legendary nickname for his smooth basketball style that made him a true Apex icon during the 1970s. The All-Conference selection for both his junior and senior years was named Wake County 2A Basketball Player of the Year in 1976. His silky-smooth shooting form became the standard that countless Apex players tried to emulate for generations. After starring at UNC Asheville and earning the 6th Man Award, Wayne’s basketball legacy at Apex remains unmatched, with fellow Hall of Famer Anthony Byrd calling him “the best basketball player to ever come out of Apex High School.”
