Frances Keir, a pioneering female coach at Apex High School from 1977-1999, is the first woman coach inducted into the Apex High School / Apex Consolidated Athletics Hall of Fame. Her notable achievements include leading the 1978-1979 basketball team to the state semi-finals and receiving the “Key to the City” from Apex. Frances coached multiple sports, including basketball, softball, tennis, and golf, winning “Conference Coach of the Year” honors in men’s and women’s tennis. Known for her demanding yet caring approach, she instilled discipline and a winning mentality in her athletes. Beyond her coaching success, Frances was a mentor who deeply cared for her players’ personal growth. Since retiring, she has been active in her community at Topsail Beach, participating in church activities and mission trips. Frances Keir’s legacy at Apex High School is marked by her groundbreaking achievements, uplifting spirit, and lasting impact on her athletes.
