2026 Inductees

The Apex Cougar Club is excited to announce this year’s Apex High School/Apex Consolidated 2026 Hall of Fame Inductees:

Courtney McLaughlin Burgess (2009)

Courtney McLaughlin Burgess helped build Apex lacrosse from the ground up — and then helped it win. As a founding member of the program, she led the Cougars to three consecutive state championships (2007–2009), earning All-State honors twice and North Carolina State Player of the Year as a senior. In 2009, she became the first North Carolinian ever named a First-Team U.S. Lacrosse All-American, helping put the state on the map for elite girls’ lacrosse. She went on to play at UNC and HPU before building a career in sports media in New York City.

Tommy DeLuca (2016)

A do-everything defenseman with a coach’s mind, Tommy DeLuca helped Apex compile a 76-8 record and reach three straight state championship games. He earned All-Conference, All-Region, and All-State honors, capped by the “Spirit of the Stick” MVP award as a senior team captain. Tommy carried that success to Cabrini University, where he became a National Champion, two-time National Defenseman of the Year, and eventually the program’s head coach. He remains known at Apex for the hours he spent mentoring younger players coming up behind him.

Tim Federowicz (2005)

Tim Federowicz is only the second Apex alum to reach Major League Baseball — and the first Apex graduate to compete in the Olympics. A two-time All-Conference catcher and Defensive Player of the Year at Apex, he starred at UNC before a 14-year professional career that included a World Series ring with the Chicago Cubs and an Olympic Silver Medal with Team USA in 2021. He’s now a Triple-A field manager working toward his goal of managing in the majors.

Richard Lynn (1965)

Richard Lynn was an All-State standout on the basketball court and a standout pitcher on the mound at Apex Consolidated, but his greatest chapter came after graduation. Raised on a 55-acre family farm as one of eleven children, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served a thirteen-month tour in Vietnam, playing a role in the historic Battle of the Rockpile. Now retired in Wilson, NC, Richard is remembered as much for his character, work ethic, and service as for his athletic talent.

Britt Morton (1991)

Britt Morton has shaped Apex athletics from nearly every angle — as an All-Conference athlete, a head football coach, and now the architect of a thriving wrestling program. After a standout football and wrestling career at Apex and a 3rd-Team All-American career at Methodist University, he spent 29 years coaching across North Carolina and Georgia before returning to Apex in 2018. As head football coach, he rebuilt the program from 40 players to nearly 100; as wrestling coach, he’s led both the men’s and women’s teams to their first-ever conference championships.

Snorsio “Sio” Moore (2008)

Sio Moore is the only Apex High School graduate to play in the NFL. A standout linebacker at Apex who earned All-Area and All-Tri Seven honors, he starred at UConn before being drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. Over parts of five NFL seasons with five different teams, he racked up 209 tackles and 7.5 sacks. Now living in Texas, Sio has stayed devoted to giving back through youth camps and anti-bullying initiatives.

Alexis Murphy (2012)

A three-sport standout in track, basketball, and soccer, Alexis Murphy is one of the most decorated athletes in Apex history. She won back-to-back NCHSAA state titles in the 100m and 200m, was a four-time Conference Meet MVP, and helped her relay team capture a USATF national championship. She went on to earn Second Team All-American honors at the University of South Carolina. At Apex, she’s also remembered fondly for a legendary Powder Puff football career alongside her sister Sydnei, also a Hall of Famer.

Laura Haynes Spainhour (1994)

Laura Haynes Spainhour was a three-sport standout and elite student at Apex, finishing her basketball career with 994 points and 500 rebounds while also earning All-Conference honors in soccer and volleyball. She carried that success to Guilford College, where she became a Division III All-American and ranks third all-time nationally in career points and rebounds combined. After college, Laura became a teacher and coach in Stokes County, where she and her husband continue to pass on the lessons of discipline and teamwork that sports gave her.
