Larry “Super” Cross earned his nickname through an incredible high school football career that saw him rake in numerous awards including All-Metro, Wake County 2A Player of the Year, and First-team All-Conference honors. Despite not starting football until 8th grade due to his passion for baseball, the 4.6-second sprinter became nearly impossible to tackle one-on-one as a running back. His athletic versatility shone through as he also excelled in basketball and baseball, winning the “Best Hitter” award and becoming an all-conference player and MVP. After a scholarship career at Indiana State was cut short by injury, Larry served in the Army in Germany, where he became famous for his cooking—a skill that still delights his seven grandchildren today.
