











Joyce Byrd Connelly, a 1985 Apex High School graduate, joins her brother Anthony in the Hall of Fame, solidifying their family’s basketball legacy. As the leading scorer for the “Cardiac Cougars,” Joyce led the girls’ team to back-to-back Eastern Regional finals in 1984 and 1985. Her stellar performance included a 35-point game against West Columbus, securing the District III championship. Joyce made history as Apex’s first female athlete named to the all-state team and selected for the North Carolina Coaches Association East-West All-Star game. Averaging 20.3 points per game in her senior year, she led Apex to a 26-2 record and earned numerous accolades, including Triangle 3-A Conference Player of the Year. After graduation, Joyce pursued higher education and enjoyed a 31-year career with Wake County Public School System. She is married to Marvin Connelly Jr., and they have a large, loving family.
