Derek Sweet

Derek Sweet, a 2013 Apex High School graduate, is celebrated for scoring the game-winning goal in the 2013 Men’s Lacrosse State Championship. His last-second goal, assisted by Luke Sieber, secured Apex’s second state title in a dramatic comeback victory. Derek’s high school career included three state final fours and two state championship games. He finished as an All-American and Apex’s all-time leading scorer with 291 points. Derek also holds the school record for most assists (155) and ranks fourth in goals scored (136). His accolades include First Team All-State and All-Conference selections in 2013 and 2012 respectively. After high school, Derek played Division I Lacrosse at Robert Morris University before transferring to East Carolina. His legendary status in Apex athletics is cemented by his crucial role in the 2013 championship and his overall exceptional performance throughout his high school career.
